Emerald News:- New Delhi: India is strengthening its position in the global energy sector, with its oil refining capacity reaching nearly 290 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) and refined petroleum product exports touching approximately one million barrels per day, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said.
Highlighting India’s growing energy capabilities amid ongoing global geopolitical uncertainties, Puri noted that the country’s transformation into a major energy supplier reflects the significant expansion of its refining infrastructure and industrial capabilities.
Recalling India’s progress over the past few years, Puri said that reaching a refining capacity of nearly 290 MMTPA would once have seemed difficult to imagine. Today, India is not only meeting substantial domestic energy demand but also supplying refined petroleum products to international markets.
He emphasised that India has moved beyond being merely a major energy-consuming nation and is increasingly emerging as a key global energy supplier.
India’s expanding refining sector plays an important role in strengthening its position in international energy markets, supporting exports and reinforcing its presence in the global petroleum supply chain. Puri’s remarks underline India’s growing importance in the global energy landscape at a time when geopolitical developments and market uncertainties continue to influence energy supplies worldwide.
